The Walters recently received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to perform the cleaning and treatment of several objects from the Doris Duke Collection of Southeast Asian Art. This collection, comprised of a variety of beautiful and unique pieces, has been in storage for some time, and many pieces require treatment. Visitors can interact with conservators as they work on this collection in the Special Exhibition Gallery.

Explore discoveries within the Walters’ collection that reveal the varieties of reuse and the techniques used to transform the old into the new. Waste Not: The Art of Medieval Recycling includes more than 20 objects and examines medieval approaches to recycling through the media of gold, ivory, stone, glass and parchment.

Art Tots Program: Music and Movement

Art Tots Program: Music and Movement

Learning is fun at the Walters for children 2–3 years old and their favorite adults. Each Art Tots class will introduce toddlers to art and the museum through age-appropriate short stories, gallery play activities, and an art activity. Toddler workshops are 60-minutes in length and led by specially trained museum educators.

Amy Reid will use her music to explore the processes of destruction and preservation in the Museum’s galleries of Ancient Near Eastern art. Performer TRNSGNDR/VHS will examine the culture and aesthetics of seventeenth-century European art through an immersive, multi-sensory installation in the Baroque galleries.
