Mysteries of the Star-Spangled Banner Manuscript

Did you know that the Star-Spangled Banner manuscript once traveled the entire United States by train? Or that it was used as an attraction to sell War Bonds? Or that it was once owned by the Walters Art Museum? The mysteries of this historical document, now in the collection of the Maryland Historical Society, are the topic of a lecture given by Elissa O'Loughlin, former senior paper conservator at the Walters Art Museum and the National Archives and Records Administration.

Seeing Music in Medieval Manuscripts

This exhibition, composed of approximately twenty manuscripts and objects, will explore music in its relationship with philosophy, religion, and the arts during the Middle Ages. Musical harmony and dissonance were thought to mirror the perfection of heaven as well as the disorder of evil.
