Just walk in and enjoy!

Sail up the Nile River to the mysterious land of the Faiyum. Hop along the backs of crocodiles as we explore the marvels of ancient Egypt! Tell tales of gods and goddesses, design a sarcophagi and read traditional Egyptian poems together. Search for crocodile hatchling eggs throughout the museum and  meet our friendly Egyptian lion cub, Waltee. Make artwork deserving of the pharaohs and enjoy exciting performances all day! Discover the Egyptian alphabet and write secret messages on pretty papyrus paper! Visit the special exhibition, Egypt’s Mysterious Book of the Faiyum, for free today!

Collateral Damage: The Fate of Cultural Property during Armed Conflict

The 2003 looting of the Iraq National Museum shocked the world. But despite new efforts to save world treasures, the loss of cultural property during armed conflicts is on the rise. Corine Wegener, Smithsonian Cultural Heritage Preservation Officer, will talk about her work as a U.S. Army “Monuments Man” in Iraq. Terry Drayman-Weisser, the Walters’ Director of Conservation and Technical Research, will describe damage to Iraq’s ancient Nimrud ivories and continuing efforts to preserve Iraq’s cultural heritage.
