1st-2nd Grade Summer Art Camp: The Pharaoh's Tomb (Full Day)

This week we will travel up the Nile and through the Valley of the Kings. Keep your eyes peeled for pyramids and the Sphinx along the way! As junior archaeologists we will paint on papyrus, write in hieroglyphics and play Egyptian board games. Work as a team to find the Pharaoh’s tomb and discover what secrets lay inside! Join us at the end of the week for a special expedition exhibition.

Explore the tombs of ancient Egypt this week to discover myths of gods and goddesses, pharaohs and mummies. Uncover secret, protective amulets, shake your sistrum and walk like an Egyptian through our galleries. This week campers will build pyramids, erect monuments, become scribes and make their own mummy myths. We will finish the week with a celebration fit for a pharaoh!

Learning by Watching: Andean Textiles and the Fabric of Culture

Andean textile specialist Dr. Anne Tiballi, the Andrew W. Mellon Curricular Facilitator at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, will present “Learning by Watching: Andean Textiles and the Fabric of Culture.” During this engaging talk, Dr. Tiballi will explore the production of ancient American textiles, examine their significance, and discuss their impact on the broader material culture of the ancient Americas.
