The Walters Art Museum and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts (BOPA) present the Janet and Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize Finalists Exhibition. Artists compete for top honors and a $25,000 fellowship in the Greater Baltimore area’s most prestigious arts competition. Held in conjunction with Artscape (July 19–21), America’s largest free arts festival, the finalists and semifinalists exhibitions are presented in partnership with the Walters and Maryland Institute College of Art.

Join us on a safari in search of furry and feathered creatures throughout our museum! Travel the world, creating artwork inspired by the animals, textures, and colors found in far-reaching lands. Campers will mark their maps with each piece of art they make in our studio. Join us at the end of the week as our skilled travelers take you on an exciting animal expedition!

Pack your magnifying glass this week as we become detectives together. Look closely; can you find the clues to discover where our animals are hiding? Listen closely; can you hear the sounds that our animal friends are making? Textured touch sculptures and kinetic creatures are just some of the creations we will make together! End the week by meeting our new furry friends in our art zoo!

This exhibition of photographs by contemporary artist Gregory Vershbow explores the interactions of art objects within environments and circumstances ordinarily beyond public view. In storage facilities and conservation laboratories, and at monuments under restoration, Vershbow photographs art objects wrapped in plastic, protected by foam, nested in boxes and set in surprising juxtapositions with other objects from different eras.

Enjoy the collections of the Walters Art Museum during quiet, less stimulating hours. Tour selected galleries, participate in multiple hands-on stations that include tactile activities, visual supports and interpretive materials. Create a work of art in the comfort of a private studio.

Travel back to a moment in history! Each day, we will explore a different time and place, experiencing what life was like for children long ago and far away. Trek the globe while filling sketchbooks with drawings of special objects we find along the way. Create their clothing, make their music and read their stories to discover just how similar we all are. At the end of the week, join us as we act out scenes from the past!
Every day campers will open their mailboxes to discover secrets and stories from the past! Spend each day in a different gallery collecting clues from ancient Greece, Egypt, India and beyond! Using our imaginations, we will create artwork with exotic materials inspired by the people, stories, and cultures we find around the world. At the end of the week, families are invited to hop into our time machine to share our discoveries!

Take a deep breath in the midst of our amazing Asian art collection this week. We will create calm and beautiful pieces of art inspired by nature. Together, we will move our bodies like bamboo in the breeze and dragons in the air. Learn about a variety of Asian traditions through stories and spark your imagination during a special camp tea ceremony. End the week by practicing yoga surrounded by original art created by our campers!
