Museum Tips
- Talk about museum manners.
- There is no right or wrong way to look at art. Ask these three questions to get imaginations started.
- What's going on here?
- What else do you see?
- What makes you say that?
- Read our story books located in the galleries.
- What can you discover? Pretend that you are on a team of archeologists. Look for clues in the art objects and on the labels that tell you all about who, what, where, and when.
- Act out stories that you see in the artwork. Pretend you are characters in the artwork. What happens next in the story? How would the subjects in the painting move if they could? What sounds would they make?
- Pick a theme to look for. Search for colors, shapes, or animals. How many can you find? How are they the same or different? How would you change the work if you could?
- Take a seat! Sit on the floor or bench while looking at artwork together.
- Limit your visit. Remember that you can always come back for free!
- Take short breaks. The Family Art Center is a great place to unwind with kids.
Museum Manners
- Look with your eyes, not with your hands. Hold your child's hand or ask them to keep them at their side. This will help us preserve the art for future generations.
- Practice your museum voice. Use inside voices to talk about the art. The museum is for everyone, so it is important to keep voices low!
- Walk. Do not run. Going too fast might cause you to miss something!
- Stay together. Look at and discuss art as a family group.
