The Walters recently received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to perform the cleaning and treatment of several objects from the Doris Duke Collection of Southeast Asian Art. This collection, comprised of a variety of beautiful and unique pieces, has been in storage for some time, and many pieces require treatment. Visitors can interact with conservators as they work on this collection in the Special Exhibition Gallery.

Medieval artists were skilled at making use of older materials. On view in this exhibition are more than 20 objects from the Walters’ collection in gold, ivory, stone, glass, and parchment that show evidence of reuse, such as melting down Roman mosaic glass to include in Romanesque enamels. Stunning and important in their own right, these works reveal secrets recently discovered through exciting new research by our curators and conservators.

Art Tots Program: Aquatic Life

Learning is fun at the Walters for children 2–3 years old and their favorite adults. Each Art Tots class will introduce toddlers to art and the museum through age-appropriate short stories, gallery play activities, and an art activity. Toddler workshops are 60-minutes in length and led by specially trained museum educators.
