Membership Desk Volunteers

These volunteers have the combined role of assisting current members and selling memberships for the museum. They welcome and check in members, maintain records of member attendance, look up membership information, renew and sell new membership and register members for events. Membership Desk volunteers answer inquiries on membership costs and benefits, special programs for members, upcoming exhibitions, and general museum information. To be successful, these volunteers need an extensive knowledge of the museum’s operations, programs and collections, and Baltimore cultural attractions to provide a broad range of services to both members and general visitors. In addition they are adept at explaining and selling the benefits of membership. Volunteers in these positions first serve at the Visitor Services Desk where they acquire knowledge about the collection and museum programs and get experience in answering a variety of visitor questions. They will also have served at the Box Office where they learn about admission practices and member services.

Requirements

Training and Commitment

Training will be provided. Volunteers aiming for this position will be required to commit to 1 year of service following completion of the 8 month training assignments at the Visitor Services Desk and Box Office. Shifts will be either 10-1:30 or 1:30 to 5:00 on alternating Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. Can also be a weekly assignment.

Member Event Assistants

Volunteers serve as an on-call pool to help with various member events such as Member Opening Parties, Member-Only Preview Days and Wednesday afternoon Curator tours for Members, or Member Appreciation Shopping Days. They may greet or check in guests, distribute programs, check coats, direct traffic, issue wheelchairs, provide directions to galleries, answer questions about the museum, or talk about membership benefits. Most events occur at night or on weekends.

Training and Commitment

Training will be provided. The on-call corps of volunteers will may be called to work 3-4 times a year for 2-4 hours each time.

Member Office Assistant

These volunteers serve in an on-call pool for help with short projects such as assembling various mailings and other assorted projects, such as copying, folding, stuffing envelopes, cutting, stamping, etc.

May be called to work for 2-4 hours once or twice a month
