Art Tots Program: B is for Book

Explore the art of language! Learning is fun at the Walters for children 2–3 years old and their favorite adults. Each Art Tots class will introduce toddlers to art and the museum through age-appropriate short stories, gallery play activities, and an art activity. Toddler workshops are 60-minutes in length and led by specially trained museum educators.

What is a siren? Why did the ancient Egyptians make mummies? Who was the strongest hero in the ancient world? In this mythology workshop, students discover the narrative belief systems of ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome. Students identify the visual attributes of mythological characters in ancient works of art and apply their new knowledge to create their own works of art in the studio.

Teen Homeschool Drawing Workshop

In this monthly workshop taught by artists, students develop their drawing skills through observation and practice in the Walters’ galleries. Students may work with instructors during a single session to learn basic drawing skills or attend multiple sessions to build a cohesive portfolio.

Seeing Music in Medieval Manuscripts

This exhibition, composed of approximately twenty manuscripts and objects, will explore music in its relationship with philosophy, religion, and the arts during the Middle Ages. Musical harmony and dissonance were thought to mirror the perfection of heaven as well as the disorder of evil.
