Make Night: Plastic Bag Crafts

What should you do with that growing pile of plastic bags slowly taking over your kitchen? Guest artist Thea Canlas will show you some easy techniques to turn the plastic bag, a seemingly universal and endless resource, into a useful DIY object. In this workshop, participants will learn how to make “plarn,” or plastic yarn, which can be used for knitting, crocheting, and sewing.

Electronic artist Bonnie Jones will use the themes of migration, mobility, and impermanence to highlight the Renaissance and Medieval collections. Jazz pianist Lafayette Gilchrist will use his compositions to examine the components of great civilizations in the Egyptian galleries.

Make Night: Wooden Hula Hoops

Hula hoops are fun and functional and a great excuse to feel like a kid again! Build, sand, and paint your own hula hoop using wood from deconstructed Baltimore homes with the Station North Tool Library and Surface Project and learn firsthand how materials can be reused in creative ways.
