Travel back in time to explore the lives of William and Henry Walters. Meet the founding family and experience what their lives were like! Collect and curate your very own art collection inspired by our special exhibition, From Rye to Raphael: The Walters Story. Special guests will use music, puppetry, video, and storytelling to immerse you in the world of the Walters family! Visit our newly installed galleries to celebrate family traditions and Baltimore history!

Who were William and Henry Walters? What was life like in Baltimore during the 1800s? Join us for an exciting day of learning at the Walters Art Museum and the Maryland Historical Society. In this joint workshop, students will spend the morning exploring the MD Historical Society to learn about 19th century life in Baltimore. In the afternoon, students will discover the rich history of the Walters family and the collection that developed into the museum we know today.

Seeing Music in Medieval Manuscripts

This exhibition, composed of approximately twenty manuscripts and objects, will explore music in its relationship with philosophy, religion, and the arts during the Middle Ages. Musical harmony and dissonance were thought to mirror the perfection of heaven as well as the disorder of evil.

Member Tour - The Doris Duke Collection: Treasures and Treatments

We invite members to join Meg Craft, Head of Objects Conservation, and Stephanie Hulman, Assistant Conservator of Objects, for a look at the Doris Duke collection and its necessary treatment.

In the Galleries: Words and Jazz

Join us in our Renaissance and Baroque galleries as we explore musical interpretations of some of our most dramatic works of art. Visitors will engage in dialogue about the art in the galleries with John Shields, the Walters’ Manager of Docent Programs, and jazz violinist David Schulman, who will provide musical interpretations. You won't want to miss this unique gallery experience.
