Who were William and Henry Walters? What was life like in Baltimore during the 1800s? Join us for an exciting day of learning at the Walters Art Museum and the Maryland Historical Society. In this joint workshop, students will spend the morning exploring the MD Historical Society to learn about 19th century life in Baltimore. In the afternoon, students will discover the rich history of the Walters family and the collection that developed into the museum we know today.

Teen Homeschool Drawing Workshop

In this monthly workshop taught by artists, students develop their drawing skills through observation and practice in the Walters’ galleries. Students may work with instructors during a single session to learn basic drawing skills or attend multiple sessions to build a cohesive portfolio.

What is a siren? Why did the ancient Egyptians make mummies? Who was the strongest hero in the ancient world? In this mythology workshop, students discover the narrative belief systems of ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome. Students identify the visual attributes of mythological characters in ancient works of art and apply their new knowledge to create their own works of art in the studio.

Travel back in time to experience the lives of knights and kings! Touch chain mail, design a protective shield, and arrange colors and shapes to shine in the sun. Visit our Knights Hall to play a game of chess and then design a board game of your very own in our studio!

The Christmas Story in Art Walk-In Tour

In the spirit of the season, come enjoy a tour examining religious art that celebrates the story of Christmas. This tour will feature Renaissance and Baroque paintings depicting the birth of Christ. This tour is part of our free, docent-led, walk-in tours. No reservations are required; just walk in and enjoy.
