In this introductory session, join Walters conservators, scientists, and educators to learn about the many connections between science and art. This first session must be attended by all participants. Case studies involving ancient Egyptian materials and the Archimedes Palimpsest will highlight discoveries achieved through scientific examination.

Seeing Music in Medieval Manuscripts

This exhibition, composed of approximately twenty manuscripts and objects, will explore music in its relationship with philosophy, religion, and the arts during the Middle Ages. Musical harmony and dissonance were thought to mirror the perfection of heaven as well as the disorder of evil.
