For members and their guests. No registration necessary.
We invite members to join us for a tour of Book Bindings from the Gilded Age, led by Abigail Quandt, Head of Book and Paper Conservation, and Diane Bockrath, Archivist/Librarian. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, fine book binding enjoyed a golden age of creativity and lavish decoration. Some binders strove to execute traditional designs at the highest levels of technical proficiency and artistic elegance, while others chose to break away and explore new emerging styles. This tour will explore the rarely seen books in this exhibition from multiple perspectives, and will examine the techniques and materials employed to showcase the book binder's craft.
This tour is part of our series of Members Tours.
