This tour will highlight the ancient panel painting titled Mummy Portrait of a Bearded Man by addressing the function and cultural significance of such portraiture in the ancient world, and detailing the role of the Walters in the current international collaboration to study these mummy portraits. For this special event, a second ancient panel painting titled Mummy Portrait of a Woman will be temporarily relocated from storage and brought to the galleries, providing members with a rare opportunity to view and learn about this magnificent painting and its relationship to a similar portrait in the collection of the Louvre.
