RESCHEDULED: Peabody Academy Strings

Please join us for a morning of delightful music in the Sculpture Court as the Walters welcomes Peabody Preparatory Strings.  A potpourri of Preparatory String Ensembles performs both treasured and contemporary works, including Glazunov's Chant du Menestrel, works by Veracini, Tchaikovsky, Kreisler, Bartók, Shostakovich, and a finale of William Kroll's barn burner, Banjo and Fiddle. The Peabody Harp Ensemble will join the Young People's String Program Violin Kreisler Group, followed by the Performance Academy for Strings Cello Choir and Violin Choir and the Pre-Conservatory Violin Program under the direction of Michela Trnkova and Anastasia Pike, Andréa Picard Boecker, Daniel Levitov, Christian Tremblay and Rebecca Henry. This concert was originally scheduled for February 15th, and rescheduled due to inclement weather.  Please note the concert is now at 10:30 a.m.

Seeing Music in Medieval Manuscripts

This exhibition, composed of approximately twenty manuscripts and objects, will explore music in its relationship with philosophy, religion, and the arts during the Middle Ages. Musical harmony and dissonance were thought to mirror the perfection of heaven as well as the disorder of evil.
