Black History Month Lecture Series - Jacob Lawrence: Painter of the American Scene

Join Deputy Director of Audience Engagement Jacqueline Copeland as she explores the artwork of renowned American painter Jacob Lawrence. Held in conjunction with the Genesis Series,1990 focus exhibition on view at the Walters until April 13, 2014, Copeland will explore how his work both reflects and transcends African American culture to become universal statements of the human condition.

Her talk will also explore their motivations and methods of acquisition, as well as their philanthropic legacies. Reist is Director of the Center for the History of Collecting at the Frick Collection and Frick Art Reference Library.
