Opening for Desire, Destruction, Transcendence
October 31, 2009
Time: 03:00 PM - 05:00 PM
Attend the opening for the installation Desire, Destruction, Transcendence, and meet the artist Amita Bhatt.
Amita Bhatt is an Indian-American artist based on the East Coast of the United States. Ms. Bhatt's paintings explore a variety of ideas through the metaphors of tantric thought. Her female forms represent the creative power that resides within the female body. In combination with other bodies and symbolic animal forms, her figures reveal such concepts as desire, tension, wisdom, and transcendence. These large-format paintings do not depict specific narratives but instead, through the use of bright colors and bold compositions, give form to concepts and ideas by reinventing traditional Indian symbolism. Here they are installed in dialog with traditional tantric works of art drawn from the collection of John and Berthe Ford.
