Calling all Scouts! The Walters Art Museum invites Scouts of all ages to learn about the wonderful world of art while earning merit badges. This interactive, two-hour program includes:
- Guided tour of selected artworks by a trained educator
- Hands-on art activity based on specific badge and belt loop/pin guidelines
- Specially designed Walters participatory patch
Price: $10 per Scout; no charge for adult chaperones. Pre-registration is required.

The Walters Art Museum invites you to spend an afternoon exploring the land of the rising sun. Climb Mt. Fuji, step foot in the temples of Tokyo, and island-hop the length of Japan! Discover the world of tea ceremonies, origami, and bonsai. Suit up with samurai as we experience the rich cultural history of this island nation of East Asia. Guided by museum educators, your scouts’ voyage through the Pacific Ocean and over mountainous terrain will showcase the traditions of Japan. From calligraphy to kabuki theater, the art of the east will continue to inspire creative thinking from the galleries to the studio. Daisy Girl Scouts will work towards their Gloria Petal, Brownie Girl Scouts will works towards their Potter badge, Junior Girl Scouts will work towards their Playing the Past badge, and Cub Scouts will work towards their Art Academics Pin or Belt Loop during this interactive, two-hour exploration!

Cancellation Policy: A minimum of 10 scouts is required for each workshop. We reserve the right to cancel a workshop due to low registration. We will confirm schedule changes via email. If you have registered for a workshop that has been canceled, you will receive a full refund.
Private Scout Workshops
You may also contact the museum to schedule private workshops for your scout group (minimum of 10 scouts) focusing on Daisy, Brownie, Junior Girl Scout or Cub Scout themes such as:
- Ceramics and Clay
- Drawing and Painting
- Her Story/Women's Stories
- Red Petal (Daisy Girl Scouts)
- Art Pin or Belt Loop
- Knights in Shining Armor
*We have been informed that specific merit badges have been discontinued and may no longer be produced. Scout groups may still elect to choose these themes for private workshops if they wish. Senior Girl Scouts and Cadettes may contact the museum to work towards earning their Museum Discovery Interest Project on an independent basis.
