Baltimore-based Mary Jo Salter, Professor at Johns Hopkins University, reflects on her former life in Asia

WHAT: Decades Later : Reverberations of a Poet's Life in Japan
Baltimore-based Mary Jo Salter has been praised by The New York Times Book Review saying, “Only a few poets transcend the history of taste to participate in the history of art—and only in a handful of poems. Salter has been struck by lightning more than once”.

Salter, author of six books of poetry, including A Phone Call to the Future: New and Selected Poems (2008), has lived for extensive periods in Kyoto (during the 80s), London, Reykjavik and Paris . Reciting directly from her work, she’ll feature selections from Henry Purcell in Japan (1985); her favorite haiku; and reflect on her former life in Asia. Mary Jo Salter is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and Director of Graduate Studies at The Writing Seminars, Johns Hopkins University.
