Renee McGarry, a New York-based scholar exploring secular and religious imagery of Aztec culture, will discuss mythological and myth historical representation of selected wildlife objects, as found in the Walters’ permanent collection. Reception to follow lecture.
This memorial lecture series encourages interdisciplinary scholars to link historic⁄ ancient art with contemporary life while presenting perspectives to enhance visitor’s enjoyment of works in the Walters’ permanent collection. The Rita Jordy & Malcolm Weisenfeld Lowenstein Memorial Lecture honors the memory of the late Rita Lowenstein, a long-time Walters docent and active member of the Friends of Asian Art.
