WHAT: Chanoyu, The Japanese Way of Tea
Have you ever wanted to learn more about what makes the ancient ritual and traditions of Japanese tea ceremonies so extraordinary? Before introducing tea, three essential ingredients are required: concentration, movement and aesthetic appreciation. Witness the rich and nuanced ritual of an authentic Japanese tea ceremony, as practiced by a professional group of experienced participants. The audience will be privileged to learn all details of preparation and serving of tea, as well as guest’s appropriate conversation methods and the final completion rituals.
Masako Soyu Miyahara joined the Urasenke Foundation in Kyoto, Japan in 1963, having studied Chanoyu at Urasenke Konnichian, the Urasenke Foundation Head School, with Gyoteis, the Highest Ranking Instructional Group of Urasenke Konnichian. Miyahara was the Assistant Director of the New York Branch of Urasenke Foundation; Director, Boston Branch of Urasenke Foundation; Delegate of the Japanese Cultural Mission to Europe; and since 2003, has been the Director of the Urasenke Washington, D.C., branch of the Urasenke Foundation.
