Fall Forum: The Archimedes Palimpsest

What: Fall Forum: The Archimedes Palimpsest

The Fall Forum features scholars and scientists presenting a cross-discipline conversation while raising issues about the discovery and conservation of The Archimedes Palimpsest. Hear about groundbreaking techniques that saved the earliest surviving Archimedes manuscript, revealing much of what this Greek mathematician sketched in sand in Syracuse in the 3rd century B.C. The moderator will be Walters Curator of Manuscripts and Rare Books Will Noel and speakers will include Walters Conservation Scientist Glenn Alan Gates; Walters Head of Conservation for Books and Paper Abigail Quandt; Rochester Institute of Technology Professor of Imaging Science Roger Easton; and Stanford University Professor of Classics and Philosophy, History of Pre-Modern Mathematics Reviel Netz.
