What: Lunch & Learn: Henry Ossawa Tanner: Modern Spirit
Director of Education and Public Programs Jackie Copeland will discuss the upcoming Henry Ossawa Tanner: Modern Spirit exhibition on view at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, January 28–March 15, 2012. This new exhibition will explore the life and career of the artist Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859–1937), reveal new research about his painting technique and highlight his role as the leading African American painter of the 19th century. Tanner’s sculpture of his father, Bishop Benjamin Tucker Tanner, will be loaned to the exhibition by the Walters.
