WHAT:  Art Blooms 2012: A Floral Fiesta!

The Women’s Committee of the Walters Art Museum presents its 23rd annual Art Blooms.  Each spring, Art Blooms enhances the Walters collection with interpretive floral arrangements by over 30 regional garden clubs.  This year’s activities will include a lecture and floral demonstration followed by a luncheon, a floral photography workshop, docent tours and a free floral design demonstration.  Our pop-up store, ‘The Garden Shed’, featuring gardening and floral items, will also be open for business.  Art Blooms provides a spectacular combination of flowers and art!

WHEN:  Friday April 13–Sunday, April 15, 2012

ADMISSION: Art Blooms is free. During Art Blooms, admission to the special exhibition is also free.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS:

Opening Night Party

What:  A culinary fiesta during which guests will be able to view the special exhibition and 30 floral interpretations.

When:  Thursday April 12, 6:30–9:30 p.m.

Where:  Sculpture Court

Price:  $150 per person.

Floral Interpretations

What:  Floral interpretations will be on view in the special exhibition Exploring Art of the Ancient Americas: The John Bourne Collection Gift.

When:  Friday April 13–Sunday, April 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where:  Special Exhibition Galleries

Lecture and Floral Demonstration with Luncheon

WhatRené van Rems of San Diego, California and a world-renowned ambassador of the floral industry will share his wide-ranging knowledge of botanical materials and floral design traditions.  This will be followed by a book signing of Rene’s Bouquets:

A Guide to Euro-Style Hand-Tied Bouquets and a luncheon.

When:  Friday April 13, 11 a.m.

Where:  Graham Auditorium and Sculpture Court

Price: $75 per person

Floral Photography Workshop

What:  Baltimore/Washington, D.C. based Antonio E. Amador, a visual artist who uses photography, digital design and computer painting to portray the beauty of nature, will give a floral photography workshop.

When:  Saturday April 14, 10:30 a.m–12 p.m.

Where:  Graham Auditorium

Price:  $20 general admission, $10 with student I.D.

Floral Demonstration

What:  Washington, D.C. based florist Daniel Espejel, a custom florist who has been providing exquisite designs and unforgettable events for Washingtonians for over 15 years, will provide a free floral demonstration.

When:  Sunday April 15, 1 p.m.

Where:  Sculpture Court

Price:  Free

The Garden Shed

What:  A pop-up store featuring gently used gardening and floral items.

When:  Friday April 13–Sunday April 15, 10 a.m–5 p.m.

Docent Tours

What:  Docents are available to explain the floral interpretations in the special exhibition Exploring Art of the Ancient Americas: The John Bourne Collection Gift.

When:  Friday April 13, 10 a.m–3 p.m.

Saturday April 14–Sunday, April 15, 11 a.m–3 p.m.
