Spotlight with Gary Vikan and Louise Steinman - The Souvenir: A Daughter Discovers Her Father's War

WHAT: Spotlight with Gary Vikan and Louise Steinman - The Souvenir: A Daughter Discovers Her Father's War

Louise Steinman, Author, Curator of ALOUD, award-winning lecture series presented by the Library Foundation of Los Angeles

Gary Vikan, Director, The Walters Art Museum

Norman Steinman fought in the Philippines in 1945 in the 25th Infantry Division, and after his death in 1990, his daughter, Louise, discovered a box of letters and souvenirs. The discovery of a silk Japanese flag launched her on a journey to Hiroshima and the fallen Japanese soldier’s home, exposing grim realities of war and her father’s postwar melancholy.
