The Virgin Mary and Other Migrant Mothers
The Emmy-nominated singer/songwriter ellen cherry uses history for inspiration. She will include many selections from her women’s history album, Years, and draw from her extensive repertoire. Cherry will highlight both the Virgin Mary and Dorothea Lange’s iconic photograph “Migrant Mother” through her songs “Maryanne” and “1933: To California.”
The Mother Prayed, the Daughter Felt Relief: Women, Motherhood & Pilgrimage in Late Medieval Europe
Medieval stories recount that women frequently sought healing for their injured or ailing children, thereby gaining social and cultural power from their brushes with the miraculous. Author Leigh Ann Craig will show how women’s roles as mothers could justify these pilgrimage travels.
