01:00 PM - 02:00 PM - Dr. Richard Burger presents the Distinguished Lecture of Art in the Ancient Americas on the Manchay Civilization of Peru. This free annual lecture series reflects a collaborative effort between the Department of the History of Art, Johns Hopkins University and the Walters Art Museum to draw scholarly attention to the rich pre-Hispanic heritage of Mesoamerica and the Andes, while fostering continuing interest in art of the ancient Americas.

Vikan and Connor, and artist Cornel Rubino, will discuss the dynamic collaboration between the Walters and the Zanvyl Krieger Mind ⁄ Brain Institute at The Johns Hopkins University, pioneering a new approach to the neural basis of the aesthetic experience, while Rubino's artistic sensibility will provide a poignant counterpoint to the conversation.

Lang recognized as one of the world?s foremost origami artists with a Ph.D. in applied physics at the California Institute of Technology and a recipient of Caltech?s highest honor in 2009, the Distinguished Alumni Award.
