Andrew W. Mellon Post-Doctoral Curatorial Fellow in Department of Asian Art
Rebecca Hall received her PhD from UCLA with a dissertation on Buddhist banners in Northern Thailand and Laos. She is working on the Walters’ impressive collection of Southeast Asian art, with a specific focus on nineteenth- and twentieth-century Thai objects. Her research considers visual representations of Buddhist heaven. She is currently developing an online exhibition of the Walters’ Southeast Asian paintings. In 2011 she curated the focus show Thai Story: The Vessantara Jataka, and plans a second show on paintings illustrating the life of the Buddha for 2014. Other projects have examined the impact of nationalism on Thai art in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
