Director of Education and Public Programs, The Walters Art Museum
Jacqueline T. Copeland has been Director of Education and Public Programs for the Walters since March 2000. She assumed the position after ten successful years as Associate Director, then Director of Education and Community Programs at the WalkerArtCenter in Minneapolis. At the Walters, Copeland develops the strategic direction of the Education Division and oversees the creation of programming for adults, school and family audiences. In 2001, she served as curator for the special exhibition Barbara Chase-Riboud: The Monument Drawings and Facing Museums, a collaborative exhibition with the ContemporaryMuseum in Baltimore, featuring newly commissioned work by artist Dennis Adams and British artist and filmmaker Issac Julien. She is also a frequent lecturer on African and African American art. In July 2004, she was selected to be a participant in the Museum Management Institute at the GettyMuseum. Copeland has been honored with many awards including the Leadership in Neighborhoods Grant from the St. Paul Companies (1996), the Living Women’s History Makers Award for Education and the Arts (2005), and the Museum Educator of the Year for the Eastern Region by the National Arts Education Association (2008).
