Get Tickets for Spring Forum: The Religion of Relics, Christian to Islam: Session 4
Sunday, March 6, 2011 at 03:00 PM
This session entitled The Religion of Relics in Christian History features Derek Krueger, Joe Rosenthal Excellence Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
By the fourth century, Christians had begun to hold the physical remains and personal effects of their holy men and women in high regard, treating them with special reverence and expecting them to provide help with practical and spiritual problems. With particular attention to the Eastern Mediterranean basin, Derek Krueger will discuss the history of Christian ideas about sacred remains and the containers made to store, transport, and display them, including many devotional objects within the Treasures exhibition.
