To celebrate LGBTQ Pride Month, this talk highlights the work of Baltimore-based painter René Treviño. As a gay Mexican-American artist, Treviño draws heavily from Ancient American imagery to “reweave” histories of the past and confront societal assumptions about our shared human experience. He will join Ellen Hoobler, William B. Ziff, Jr. Associate Curator of Art of the Americas, 1200 BCE-1500 CE, to look at how contemporary art continues to offer new interpretations of historic collections.
