In the 19th century, just as today, parties varied depending upon your social class and how much you could afford to spend on a single evening. Many lavish parties were thrown at 1 West Mount Vernon Place, requiring countless hours of labor on the part of the paid and enslaved staff. We’ll hear tales of what guests might experience, as well as learn more about what happened behind the scenes to prepare.

These free tours feature unique themes and aspects of the museum’s extensive collection and are open to visitors of all ages. On the first Saturday of each month, the Walters offers a free tour in Spanish from 1 to 2 p.m.
