For this second Lunch & Learn session of the season, hear Rebecca Hall, Mellon Curatorial Fellow of Asian Art, Walters Art Museum, speak about the special exhibition in the Manuscripts gallery. The exhibition explores the Vessantara jataka, a tale of one of the Buddha's former lives as a Prince whose generosity sets an example for others to admire and follow.
Through Vessantara's selfless acts, he reveals his transcendent understanding of the virtue of charity. Hall will present this narrative using imagery from Thailand, painted around the turn of the twentieth century. These works were intended to be hung during festivals when the reading of this story was offered to the Buddhist community.
Bring your light lunch to the Walters' Graham Auditorium (or purchase a lunch in the Walters new café) and enjoy lectures by curators, conservators, scholars and artists covering a range of topics related to the Walters’ exhibitions, collections and areas of interest. Lunch & Learn talks are free to the public and occur every first Thursday of the month until June.
