The elaborate hairstyles depicted on ancient Roman portraits are impressive--even more so once you realize they were styled without the help of wigs, electrical implements, hairspray, shampoo or even bobby pins! Join us for a gallery talk with ancient hairdressing authority Janet Stephens and learn just how clever those Roman hair stylists were!
Janet Stephens is a professional hairdresser and experimental archaeologist living in Baltimore. Her work is published in the Journal of Roman Archaeology and the online journal EXARC (forthcoming).
The group will gather at 5:20p in the Centre Street Lobby and at 5:30p will move to the Roman Galleries, Second Floor, Centre Street Building for the lecture.
