The Walters’ special exhibition Gold of the Ancient Americas illustrates the techniques and uses of gold by native peoples in Panama, Peru, and Costa Rica. For this workshop, Baltimore Jewelry Center instructors will give a firsthand look at making tumbaga, a gold and copper alloy, finished examples of which are on view in the galleries. Participants will learn the fundamental metalworking techniques of chasing and repoussé to create a copper badge brooch.
