Ancient Engineers to Modern Designs Homeschool Workshop Ages 5-6

What is the job of an engineer? How is ancient engineering reflected in modern-day design? Join us for an exciting day of learning at the Walters Art Museum and the Maryland Science Center.

From 10 a.m. to noon, students will visit the Maryland Science Center and discover the many ways engineers look to the past for inspiration. Students will step into the role of an engineer and use the design process to help solve a problem.

Parents and guardians are responsible for students’ lunch and transportation to the Walters from noon to 1 p.m.

Following a lunch break, meet us at the Walters from 1:15 to 3:30 to uncover ancient engineering secrets. Students will learn about the tools, techniques, and materials used to make works of art from around the world.

This workshop is designed exclusively for homeschool students ages 5–12. Participants enjoy an introduction to the museum, a guided tour, studio activity, and post-visit materials.

Pre-registration is required. When enrolling online, please include your participating student’s name and age.

Museum members can register early for this popular series beginning August 4! Non-member registration will become available August 11.

In the event this program is sold out, please e-mail school programs to be placed on the waiting list.

Refunds will not be given if you are unable to attend the program for which you have registered.
