Learn about the fashions, decadent entertainments, and urban pastimes of pre-modern Japan by exploring that culture’s ukiyo-e, or woodblock prints, with Matthew Welch, Deputy Director and Chief Curator at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Welch will provide an overview of the social environment of Japan’s “floating world” by examining artists’ works from the 18th century to the present day. This annual lecture celebrates John and Berthe Ford’s philanthropy and insight as collectors. Reception to follow.
