See Pearls on a String and Gérôme and His Circle at the Walters in November

See Pearls on a String: Artists, Patrons, and Poets at the Great Islamic Courts, a major international loan exhibition featuring more than 100 works of Islamic art including paintings, calligraphy, textiles, ceramics, and jeweled luxury objects. Gérôme and His Circle explores the movement of people, art, and ideas between France and the Middle East during the second half of the 19th century and presents a new perspective on the relationships among French artists, dealers, and elite Ottoman patrons. Visitors can also make art and drop in for free tours of the collection in November at the Walters.

Join Jo Briggs, associate curator of 18th and 19th century art, as she explores how Parisian actresses and courtesans wore provocative pieces of art. Using replicas, Briggs will test the overall practicality and wearability of these stunning jewels.

Peabody on the Court Music Series

Hear violinist Alan Choo in a program of Italian, French, and Bohemian baroque music. The free concerts are presented on select first Fridays in partnership with the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.

About the Walters Art Museum
The Walters Art Museum is located in downtown Baltimore’s historic Mount Vernon Cultural District at North Charles and Centre Streets. At the time of his death in 1931, museum founder Henry Walters left his entire collection of art to the city of Baltimore. Its collection includes ancient art, medieval art and manuscripts, decorative objects, Asian art, and Old Master and 19th-century paintings. The Museum Store offers distinctive gifts, jewelry, and books based on the museum’s collections.
