Marguerite Makes a Book

By Bruce Robertson

Illustrated by Kathryn Hewitt

This wonderful book tells the tale of a young girl named Marguerite-daughter of the most famous manuscript illuminator in Paris during the 1400's. Lady Isabelle is anxious for the beautiful book she commissioned and Marguerite discovers she's going to have to lend her father a hand if the Lady is to have her book on time. She journeys all over Paris buying goose feathers for quills, eggs for mixing paints, dried plants and ground minerals for pigments. Then she expertly finishes the illumination of Lady Isabelle's book, to the delight of her father and his patron. Containing a glossary of technical terms, the story helps to "illuminate" the world of manuscripts all! Recommended for ages 8 and up.
