The Walters Art Museum has been governed by an independent Board of Trustees since its founding.

Kate Burgin, Andrea B. and John H. Laporte Director and CEO

Kate Burgin was appointed the Andrea B. and John H. Laporte Executive Director and CEO of the Walters Art Museum in January 2025. Burgin served in several executive positions at the Walters from 2016 to 2022. In her most recent role at the Walters, Burgin was Deputy Director of the museum. She led a series of transformational initiatives for the museum, including the successful completion of a major capital fundraising project for the refurbishment of Hackerman House at One West Mount Vernon Place, and the expansion of new teams to increase engagement in the wider Baltimore community. Burgin rejoined the Walters from Baltimore-based company Catatyte Inc., where she was President of Talent Stream, a program dedicated to creating workforce opportunities.

Burgin’s earlier career included roles at TDC, a nonprofit consulting firm where she served as Senior Vice President, and at Boston Consulting Group. She holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in History and Literature from Harvard College. Kate has lived in Baltimore City for 15 years.
