Luxury & Loss Opening Day Artist Talks
Celebrate the opening of the Walters’ newest exhibition, Luxury & Loss: Feather, Shell, Tusk, Horn, with special talks from two artists who approach material impacts through their distinct artistic practices. Exhibition curator Dany Chan, Associate Curator of Asian Art, will moderate a conversation with the local artists Amy Boone-McCreesh and Luci Jockel, followed by a Q&A with the audience.
About the Artists
Luci Jockel maintains a studio practice in Baltimore where she also serves as a Metalsmithing & Jewelry Lecturer and Area Coordinator at Towson University. She received a MFA from Rhode Island School of Design in Jewelry and Metalsmithing, 2016 and a BFA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Jewelry and Ceramics, 2014. Jockel has curated exhibitions at Baltimore Jewelry Center, Towson University and as part of JV Collective, a cohort of seven art jewelers. She actively teaches workshops at craft schools, such as Brooklyn Metal Works, Baltimore Jewelry Center, and Peters Valley School of Craft. Her work is in the collections of the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, RISD Museum, Galerie Marzee and ArtYard.
Amy Boone-McCreesh is a Baltimore-based multidisciplinary artist whose vibrant and maximalist works explore themes of decoration, material culture, and constructed environments. Her work has been exhibited widely across the United States and has been featured in Hyperallergic, Artnet, Artblog, New American Paintings, and Beautiful Decay. Her work is in the permanent collections of Facebook, Capital One, and the U.S. Department of State’s Art in Embassies program. Boone-McCreesh was a finalist for the 2024 Janet and Walter Sondheim Prize and a 2023 Joan Mitchell Fellowship nominee. She is the founder and editor of INERTIA, an online studio visit series, and has contributed writing to BmoreArt and Sculpture Magazine. Boone-McCreesh holds an MFA from Towson University and a BFA from the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design. She is an adjunct faculty member at Maryland Institute College of Art and Towson University. She has held visiting professorships at Dickinson College and Franklin & Marshall College, and regularly lectures as a visiting artist and critic across the country.
