An 18th-century painting of an Incan King with a Peruvian Saint, a contemporary vase featuring Frederick Douglass, teacups painted with images of Kabuki actors, and a 16th-century book depicting the Sami peoples of Scandinavia connect in this exhibition to tell the story of the Walters expanding collection. This intimate display of 14 recently acquired works represents 700 years of history and features books, paintings, sculptures, and ceramics. Expanding the Collection speaks to the new stories and perspectives these works bring to the Walters and includes insights from curators who helped acquire them.
