Jornadas contra el maíz transgénico / Days Against Genetically Modified Corn by Eugenio Merino and Pierre Valls is on view in Latin American Art / Arte Latinoamericano.

Corn remains vital in Mesoamerica, as both food and a source of income. In recent decades, the U.S. and other nations have sold genetically modified variants of this grain to Mexico, although it cannot be used for human consumption there. Farmers and activists have protested the introduction and control of genetically modified (GMO) and patented strains of the crop.

This large blue and white vessel highlights the continuing resistance to the use of GMO corn and associated pesticides, as well as the legal protection of this crop by companies like Monsanto and DuPont.
