The Walters Art Museum, in collaboration with the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, is proud to present the 14th-annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize Finalists Exhibition.
The exhibition showcases the work of seven finalists in this prestigious competition, which awards a $25,000 fellowship to assist in furthering the career of a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the Greater Baltimore region. This year’s finalists are Negar Ahkami, Akea Brionne Brown, Cheeny Celebrado-Royer, Schroeder Cherry, Phylicia Ghee, Jackie Milad and Stephanie Williams.
The finalists’ work will be on view June 15 through August 11 at the Walters Art Museum, with an award ceremony and reception to take place Saturday, July 13 at 7 p.m. at the Walters. Jurors for the 2019 competition are acclaimed artist Laylah Ali, internationally recognized curator Regine Basha, and artist and critic William Powhida.
The Sondheim prize announcement will take place Saturday, July 13. The finalists’ exhibition continues at the Walters during Artscape, America’s largest free arts festival, which runs July 19–21. Artscape features more than 150 fine artists, fashion designers, craftspeople, visual art exhibitions, and live concerts.
