The Ashcan School

January 07, 2006–March 19, 2006

Twenty-nine drawings, watercolors, and etchings borrowed from the collection of Mrs. Sigmund Hyman were featured in this small exhibition. The artists included are associated with the Ashcan school, a term applied to a number of urban realist artists in the early 20th century. Represented were John Sloan, Robert Henri, Everett Shinn, and George Luks, along with several other artists who drew many of their subjects in New York’s Bowery.
