Planned Giving

Many of our supporters have included the Walters in their estate plans by naming the Walters as a beneficiary of their retirement plan account, life insurance policy, or including a gift to the museum in their will or revocable living trust. Including the Walters in your estate plan can change the lives of community members now and far into the future.

Secure Your Legacy

The legacy you create is unique, and the Walters is grateful to be a part of it. A planned gift carries on the legacy of our supporters who believe in the mission of bringing art and people together for enjoyment, discovery, and learning.

Planning for the future and creating the legacy you wish to leave is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. If you would like confidential information about how a planned gift may increase your income, reduce taxes, and enable you to be a major donor to the Walters Art Museum, please contact Katarina Ziegler, Director of Development, at [email protected] or 410-547-9000, ext. 614.

Legacy Society

The Walters Legacy Society recognizes and honors those who have made a commitment to support the Walters Art Museum through their will or other planned gift. The Legacy Society at the Walters comprises individual donors who…

  • Provide a bequest through a will or another type of estate plan.
  • Name the museum as a primary or secondary beneficiary of a life insurance policy, 401k, or other financial instrument.

All Legacy Society members are Partners of the Walters Art Museum, enjoying access and recognition. Special gatherings and events for Legacy Society members are organized annually to honor the impact you have today and in the future in our community.

Will or Living Trust

The Walters Art Museum’s existence is attributed to the power of bequests.

When you include a gift to the Walters in your will or living trust, you make a lasting impact on the future of the museum. This flexible gift allows you to impact future generations while still maintaining the ability to update your gift as life circumstances change. All it takes is one sentence.

Gifts of Art

Thank you for considering the Walters as you plan for the future of your art. Gifts of art or funds to purchase additional artwork continue the mission and storytelling purpose of the Walters. The Walters Art Museum houses a collection of more than 36,000 objects spanning seven millennia from cultures across the world. We welcome discussions around gifts of high-quality artwork and artifacts that will complement and enhance the collection today and into the future.

We have a multistep review and approval process when considering whether the Walters is the right home for any offered gift of art. All gifts of art must have documentable provenance and be formally accepted by the Walters Art Museum Collections Committee and the Trustees of the Walters Art Museum.

Many donors of gifts of art also support the ongoing care of the collection with a donation of funds during their lifetime or by making estate plans that continue their legacy and impact on the public.

To explore various ways to make a gift of art in your estate plans, please contact Katarina Ziegler, Director of Development, at [email protected] or 410-547-9000, ext. 614.
