Express and Explore Tour: Style and Substance

jewelry by Dourean Fletcher

How we choose to dress, and especially how we adorn ourselves, carries layers of personal, spiritual, and aspirational meaning. Explore the artistry and symbolism of jewelry on this tour featuring historic works in the Walters collection and Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture before it closes Sunday, August 9.

Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture is dedicated to jewelry artist Douriean Fletcher, whose work has shaped the cinematic worlds of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther films and Coming 2 America. The exhibition explores the self-taught metalsmith’s jewelry as a powerful narrative tool in art, Black identity, and visual storytelling and spotlights works from the Walters collection that inspired the artist. The exhibition is on view from April 18 to August 9 in our Temporary Exhibition Gallery on Level 1.

The Express and Explore Tour is a 30-minute art experience for adults that centers on creativity and connection. Led by museum staff, each tour features a different theme each month and allows participants to unplug and unwind in our galleries through playful activities and group discussion.
