Teen Lab: Comic Character Design in Clay

Thursday, June 4, 2026, 4–6 p.m.
Clay Figure of Standing Man with a Bundle of Darts;"Tunjo" of a Standing Man with a Miniature Raft

Location: Studio B

Teens are invited to design a real or fictional person and create them out of clay, as inspired by depictions of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther films characters featured in the special exhibition Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture. What attributes do your fictional characters possess? What clothes or accessories do they wear?

Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture is dedicated to jewelry artist Douriean Fletcher, whose work has shaped the cinematic worlds of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther films and Coming 2 America. The exhibition explores the self-taught metalsmith’s jewelry as a powerful narrative tool in art, Black identity, and visual storytelling and spotlights works from the Walters collection that inspired the artist. The exhibition is on view from April 18 to August 9 in our Temporary Exhibition Gallery on Level 1.

Teen Lab is a space for teens to hang out, create art, and make friends. During this drop-in program, teens participate in creative activities, explore different cultures through art, and check out our galleries. Teens can stop by anytime between 4–6 p.m. to join in. Ages 13–17.

Teen programs at the Walters are supported in part by Lewis Contractors, and Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker.

Thursday Nights are sponsored by T. Rowe Price.
