the work of Antoine-Louis Barye

Location: Meet at the Upper Charles Street Entrance

The Walters Art Museum is home to an outstanding collection of the work of Antoine-Louis Barye (1795–1875), a French artist who specialized in sculpting animals and enjoyed the patronage of French royalty. William T. Walters eagerly sought out the artist’s bronzes and, in 1885, Walters gifted several sculptures to the city of Baltimore. This tour, led by Jo Briggs, Jennie Walters Delano Curator of 18th- and 19th-Century Art, highlights the enduring connections Walters’s patronage forged between public spaces in Paris and Baltimore.
